Karate Christmas 2021

I’ve always loved the quote by Sensei Gichin Funakoshi, that karate is an aid to justice. And taken in a modern context, social justice is part of our civic duty, and humbles us as martial artists.

This December, we and our partner dojos, Palm Court Karate and Seishin Martial Arts Academy, were able to send up a number of complete and incomplete karate suits and a little bit of equipment to Sensei Misheck and his students in Epworth, Zimbabwe. The delivery was faciliated by Sensei Nigel, and we are always grateful to him for making space in his luggage to get the suits over the border.

Sensei Misheck supplemented our offering with groceries and a Christmas lunch for the kids. His support for his community and the contributions he makes to the lives of his student sets a shining example of what it truly means to be Sensei.

If you would like your dojo to become a member of Martial Heart, and contribute to the donation and distribution of karate gear to under-served dojos, please contact Zoë at info@martialheart.org. If there is a dojo in need that you would like to nominate, please get in touch!

Many thanks to the generous students and instructors of these two partner dojos!

October Donation to Epworth Dojo

On October 9th, our big box of donations made its way to Sensei Misheck’s dojo in Epworth, Zimbabwe, delivered by our own Sensei Nigel, who also stopped off at his old dojo in Warren on the way to donate 5 of the suits to the students there.

We were delighted to receive the photos of the students with the gis, belts and mitts that the GRKC students had donated. The food in the photo was provided by Sensei Misheck himself from his income. He is an exemplary instructor, taking karate to where it is needed and doing as much for his students as possible. He is truly inspirational, and it is our honour to work with him.
